Fall Into the Gap

There have been times in my running life that if I didn't have music to listen to, I was virtually UNABLE to get through a workout. No joke! Maybe emberassing to admit, but I have skipped a run for that reason alone. I have to have beer with my chicken wings and I have to have a fun playlist while I run. Weird comparison, but true! Some thngs just don't work without the other.

So, yesterday when I drove into the beautiful foothills to go trail running, I was struck with utter panic when I realized that I had no signal on my phone to listen to music and didn't have my IPod. After about 10 minutes of tearing through my car looking for the IPod that I swore I had packed, I decided (VERY against my will) that I had to hit the trail in horrifying silence.

I was internally yelling at myself for the first few minutes, but the fantastic views and trails of people were a complete distraction from my normal music filled run. I was saying "GOOD MORNING" to anyone who passed in a tone that would have made most think I just won the lottery. I don't know if it was the day, the view, or the out of the norm actions of the day, but it was one of the most fun runs I've had in a very long time.

Moral: Do something out of the ordinary...cause it could be the best thing to happen to you today!

OH! I also have no idea why I named this blog what I did!

A FishTail of two Bobs!

I've recently been yearning to adopt a new pet or pets.  A little creature or two to tell my hopes, dreams and fears without fear of judgement or back talk. I decided to take this desire and make it a reality.

Let me preface this story by sharing that I do have a beautiful MiniPin named Hendrix that I call my own, but like any good mother does, I left the adorable bundle of joy to be raised by my parents when I made the move to the Rockies a little over two years ago. I had signed a lease to a spacious studio that did not allow dogs. I told myself I would get a bigger more open place as soon as I could and take him back. Two years and a couple months later, I have done no such thing.

My grand idea to replace the void of Hendrix was to get a couple fish. I decided it would have to be two, because I wanted to name them Bob Marley and Bob Dylan. I would obviously call them "the Bobs" in my homage to OfficeSpace. After three days of talking about my idea of my pet Bobs, I ventured out to my local PetSmart to purchase a bowl, rocks and two of the most badass fish I could find.

Fifteen minutes agonizing over the many tanks of fish, I found two that were a nice brown and orange tye-die looking in appearance. Obviously, these were my guys! There could be no better look for two fish named after hippie era revolutionary musical artists. Just as I was ready to call it a day and go home I was abruptly informed that they were tropical fish and they would need and entire tank set up, and not the gallon bowl and rocks I had in hand. To make the whole situaion more agonizing, he told me my only real option would be to get a beta fish. For those who don't know, a beta fish must live alone. Two together would battle to the death. Leaving only one or none of them in the end

In an attempt NOT to make myself the Michael Vick of fish ownership, I abruptly put all my supplies back, and went home.

Maybe I don't really want any pets after all.

HAPPY WALHBERG WEDNESDAY

I am a runner! I may not avidly track my mileage, time, heart rate, elevation, electrolyte levels... and I could go on and on with the plethora of different gadgets and gizmos a plenty runners use to make themselves feel "official."  Instead, I am on a constant search for flashy clothes, funny sunglasses and the best off the wall music to keep me truckin through those 10-minute miles I pound out on the streets of  Denver. So, when I discovered an old New Kids on the Block shirt that was my sisters circa 1990, I obviously added it to my wardrobe of running gear. That discovery brings me to this the story of the birth of my Wahlberg Wednesdays!

One day while was hoofing it up 17th in Denver headed to my loop in city park,"Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch randomly began tantalizing my eardrums while I was wearing my NKOTB top. Epiphany! I was all kinds of Wahlberged out. Donny (Danny, Joe, Jon, Jordan) on my shirt and Marky Mark in my ear. I knew it was a sign...it had to be, right? So, I purposely continued the tradition. Not all the time, but sometimes there are those special days that I make a NKOTB mixed with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch mix (mostly NKOTB, because shockingly enough "Good Vibrations" is really the only hit of the latter) and hit the pavement.

To those of you out there that want to have the same level of excitement in your mundane workout as I do, go dust off some old clothes boxes, find some vintage NKOTB top, Pinterest project that into a tank and work it out. If you aren't a runner, don't worry! You can spruce up a bike ride or even a whirl on the elliptical at the gym. There are no rules with Wahlberg Wednesday...it's all about letting those boys ease the pain of your arduous workouts.

Here are a few upbeat selections for your themed playlist:
